*With the beginnings of October in tow, decorations for Halloween have been set up throughout the cafe. As you stroll in, you pass a three-foot witch made of straw and notice the Halloween-themed centerpieces on each of the tables. There are even orange lights strung around the menu of the cafe, perfect to set the ambience for the spooky season.
You don’t, however, see Dashboard.
You glance both directions at the counter. You walk over to the door leading to the backroom, trying to see if Dashboard can be seen through the small window.*
Boo!
*The barista jumps out from behind the counter, startling you. Adorning a homemade, Halloween vest with pom-poms sewn on as pumpkins, Dashboard smiles brightly at your frightened face.*
Welcome to Bandwidth and Brew: where we serve up your scroll fuel, no matter how you take your brew!
With it being the beginning of spooky season and all, I thought I would take my shot at giving you a scare.
Speaking of, we have some frighteningly good options for scroll fuel for the month of October.
Would you like to hear about them?
*After managing to get your heart-rate back in check, you nod with a smile.*
Splendid!
There is no better place to keep up with the holidays than TODAY. They recently released a chilling article of 16 real ghost stories. The ghost stories span from haunted hotels to graveyards.
Truthfully? I wasn’t even able to get through the article without fearing I would be ridden with nightmares.
What do you say? Can I pour you some of these spine-tingling stories?
*Whether you like thrills or not, you shake your head. Halloween season just started, and it feels a bit too early to be jumping into the creepy stuff.*
That’s alright. I don’t have the mind to handle those types of stories.
I have something else in mind for you then…
Have you ever thought that telecommunications could cause a spook?
*Intrigued, you shake your head. Dashboard grabs a festive orange mug, spiders drawn on the rim and starts to prepare a drink.*
Earlier this week, the U.S. secret service discovered a devious plan to attack the New York tri-state area’s communications. The plan was discovered as a telecommunications network itself: an active SIM farm that is the largest of its kind in an abandoned apartment building. *chills*
The SIM farm contained more than 10,000 SIM cards that enabled encrypted communication by sending 30 million text messages per minute. That means the farm was so powerful that it could have messaged the entire country in about 12 minutes.
The discovered SIM farm was a concern for multiple reasons. With its power, the SIM Farm could have shut down all cellular networks in New York – making emergency communication and police dispatch impossible.
Another reason it was concerning was the specific time the SIM farm was discovered: right before a United Nations General Assembly.
The secret service still does not know who set the farm up, but they are performing all types of analyses on the cards in order to get any information. The current theory? That this SIM farm was heavily funded either by another country, by criminals in the U.S., or both.
It appears that ghosts are not the only thing sending chills down spines anymore.
*Reflecting on what you have just been told, you watch as Dashboard creates foam art in the pumpkin-flavored drink the barista has made for you. As Dashboard hands it to you, the jack-o-lantern in your cup stares back at you with a sinister grin.*
Here you go: I know you like your telecommunications news piping hot!
